  1. I am only aware of these types at Teesmouth, North and South Gare and this is the last one standing. Built June 1940 they were LAA posts with loopholes for rifles and the post at either end for a Bren or Vickers in the AA role, in this case a Bren. The ‘trough’ at each end, actually is a water trough for cooling the detachable Bren barrel with a quick dunking. The North Gare positions had a pipe connector into the trough so it could act as a condenser rather than the usual petrol can. At N Gare one was subdivided by an internal blast wall which the other lacked.
