Andy Capp creator Reg Smythe was born and died in Hartlepool and based the characters on his own parents.
The bronze statue was erected in 2007

Hi, Just found this on Google search ( I was researching some sculpture info)
Great to see my Andy statue again! Interesting to see the “verdigris” green on the bottom of the figure, which is produced by uric acid on bronze ie: dog pee!
Some dogs have no appreciation of art!
