  4. I was a pupil at this school and though I realise that progress has a place it is still sad to know that this building, with so much history for so many people, is no longer there .

    • I refer you to my reply November 12th 2015, the school was opened 6th of May 1933 not 1926 information comes from redcar council time line. The seniors and infants were built by the council later. The tin hut school was what became the seniors dininghall it was re cladded in the 50s it was also used for technical drawing class.

      • The previously demolished Dormanstown Training Centre next door is marked as a school on the OS 6-inch map of 1930 and is on its own, so maybe that opened in 1926 with a different name? (I’m not old enough to know whether DTC was previously part of Clara Lady Dorman Sch)

        • The school has always been called lady Clara dorman it was built to take the 11to14yr old because the children 1 1 and over had to walk the 3 miles to westdyke or Warrenby school .The school in the photo is the old secondary school it was built
In 1937 the same as the infants during the war the air raid shelter classrooms were built , yes the school shows on the 30s map this is due to planning but as I’ve written before if you look at the ariel photo of dormanstown 1900s down the right hand side this is south avenue no schools . Mr Price was head of the old school and the new till his death in the 50s it was his pride and joy he showed us the plaque on our first day and asked us to remember it. I thought i did until asked to recall it due to the mists of time I was a year out 32 instead of 33. Hope this helps.

  5. I went to this school til leaving in 1963. The Headmaster when I left was Mr Bridges and before that it wasM Mr Wheldon, his wife taught needlework and music there too. I am interested to know when Mr Bridges left.

  6. re letter Dennis Hewitt 27 Feb 2017 I. don’t dispute your knowledge of the Lady Clara Dorman School but I do Know that the mr Price whom you refer to did not die in the 1950#s but lived on until 1970 when at the age of 85 he passed away.I would be very interested in anything you know of the said Mr Price My Grandfather Regards Ian Price

  7. I went to all 3 of the schools in Dormanstown the headmaster of the junior school was Mr Booth and Mr Steele was the headmaster of the senior. We still had to walk to what was Westfields for certain lessons for the first couple of years I think then we all moved to Westfield.
