  1. I worked part-time on an evening as bar staff at the Coatham Bowl in Redcar at the time in the mid 1970’s and I remember how much I was looking forward to the opening of the Parkway as it would cut the return journey to my home in Saltersgill Estate in Middlesbrough late at night – great memories of that time and the music groups I saw at the time: Sailor, Fox (I have a story about the lead singer), John Miles, The Damned (included Captain Sensible) and many more.
The journey time before that was much longer as the route took us along the Trunk Road past the Redcar Steel Works (no longer there) and ICI Wilton and through South Bank, Thornaby and all the way through Middlesbrough or turning off after Wilton to Lackenby, Eston Village, Normanby and on to home, both much longer than the Parkway!
One thing to mention is a short streach of the Parkway across the Eston Hills, not far from this plague, gives a great view across the valley that Middlesbrough is in and it is a fantastic view lit up at night.
