Monks Walk, Guisborough Priory

Geotag Icon Show on map

This area of the priory is not normally open to the public, but I managed to visit on a Heritage Open Day. The oval avenue of lime trees shows up well on the aerial photos.

One area also contains a large amount of stonework recovered from the priory

  2. Hi pal. The site entrance to the priory is through a gate by the church and has opening signs (at least when the council ran it with the information office). Everything is owned by the english heritage and the gardens were ran by volunteers (http://www.gisboroughprioryproject.co.uk/) but the contract has been given by the council so the volunteers now maintain the gardens and priory. Another entrance is by the car park of bow street centre infront of the old hospital via what I call a farmer’s style gate. Opening times are on there for when the volunteers are working which is every other sunday, mondays and thursdays if i remember right from 10:00. I love this site!

  3. I visited this site in September 2016 and was delighted by the helpfulness, enthusiasm and welcoming attitude of the the volunteers looking after the site. The priory is five minutes walk from the town centre and just yards from the Market Place bus stops. Lovely gardens, benches provided – take you sandwiches and have lunch there!
