Sandsend Cement Works and Kilns

Originally a corn mill, the building was converted for the manufacture of Roman Cement around 1811 (a hydraulic cement which can set underwater) , a drying kiln can be seem to the rear of the building.

  1. I did a full Structural survey and report of the old mill and kilns twenty odd years ago, with costing schemes to bring it back to life. Nice to see pic as it brings back happy memories. Must say, it was one of the most dangerous surveys I did with trees growing from the walls and massive rotten oak beams dangling and some with bits of machinery balanced on them. Lovely building tho.
