The viaduct over Skelton Beck was originally part of the Whitby, Redcar and Middlesbrough Union Railway which opened in 1872. Its designer is thought to be Thomas Elliot Harrison.
The passenger line closed in 1958 and now carries goods trains to the Boulby Potash mine.
If anyone is interesting the Larpool viaduct near Whitby is very similar to this one, with the added benefit of being available for walking over……..
And if you keep walking over the larpool one you get very close to the secret cave!
is the secret cave the same place as the Ironstone Drift.
