Longacres Ironstone Mine Powder House

The powder house dates from around 1877 and is of a very similar design to the one at Eston, its also extremely overgrown and dirty and looks to be the haunt of young drinkers and wire burners.

  1. I suppose the heavy concrete construction of the powder house generally will ensure its longevity. This is probably why those at Eston, Longacres and Belmont (to name but a few) are all still standing today, many years after construction.

  2. I see this relic has recently been uncovered during the earth works as the site is developed. Passed it hundreds of times but now it stands out like a sore thumb!
