The Redcar Tank

Geotag Icon Show on map

Many towns in the UK were presented with tanks at the end of WW1. I’ve seen three photos of the Redcar tank, one shows it at the railway station in 1919.tank4
Two others show it at the end of the High Street.

At some point it was apparently moved to the corner of Lilac Grove and Coast Road where some British Legion seating exists today, but as was the fate with the majority of these tanks they were used for scrap in WW2.

  1. Having served in the Royal Tank Regiment for 24 years I was saddened to learn the fate of Tank 246, I recently moved to Redcar and would have been proud to see a Tank that my forebear’s used, I believe their was also a plaque at one point to commemorate the Tank but this was also removed.

  2. Today myself and my son drove back from Redcar to Middlesbrough, we were looking at some graffiti which is stepped back quite far from the road. We clearly seen a tank moving at that very point. Obviously in shock at how where and why.i google searched… I have arrived here on this post and wonder what the heck
