I had always considered Thornaby to be a new town built after the war until I found this by accident.

  1. The whole green that the church stands on in medieval, look further and you will find bumps in teh grass for the old village and also an old farmhouse with a sun dial. Also nearby is Horseshoe bend, a natural bend in the river that the romans used to off load goods whils the boats went to the otherside to take on the goods again.
