North Eastern Daily Gazette Buildings, Zetland Road, Middlesbrough

11-13 Zetland Road was commissioned by Hugh Gilzean-Reid as the home of the North Eastern Daily Gazette (which is today the Evening Gazette)

11 was designed by W H Blessley in 1871, 13 by R Lofthouse in 1893

And which I recall we (the then Cleveland County Council) sold for Â£1 to the present developers / owners to allow them the room to restore the building.

This town is going to have absolutely no architectural heritage left the way our current and past councils are going. Might as well call us a ‘New Town’ as everything is going to be dated 1960 and after.
