50 years since the end of Cleveland Ironstone Mining

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the closure of the last ironstone mine at North Skelton on 17th January 1964.

The East Cleveland Image Archive has two photo taken on that day when the TV cameras were present.

Excellent film, I seem to remember seeing this at school in the1970s.
I’ve been pausing the film to see if I can identity the crew of the class 25 working what is said to be the final train

Very good film indeed. Having walked around the back of North Skelton mine and over the old trackbed the sequence of the last train leaving was very poignant.
