Show on mapBetween 1866 and 1947 Middlesbrough’s Trophy Cannon stood by the Upper Lake in Albert Park, which became known as ‘Cannon Lake’.
Clare Hindmarsh kindly let me use these photographs of the cannon taken some time between 1929 and 1933.
The cannon finally got back into the park in 2001, but the lake is long gone.

Used to fish in Albert park, never caught anything!
Cannon Lake used to also feature a decorative arch built from stones salvaged from the old Middlesbrough Priory. These stones disappeared when the lake was filled in and their current location is unknown.
Presumably in the bottom of the lake.
Can anyone remember the old bathing pool that used to be behind the old parkeepers hut in Albert park ? I never ever saw it filled with water , just a large multi level empty concrete hole that’s gone now
