Middlesbrough, Winter Garden

All that remains is this plaque very hidden away in a back alley.

  1. There’s a photo of inside the Winter Gardens in the book “The Book of Middlesbrough” by Norman Moorsom. Here’s what he says about the Winter Gardens…”Social clubs and working mens clubs have contributed much to the life of the community over the years, one of the most interesting being the Winter Gardens, established in 1907 by Lady Bell. Situated in Dundas Street, it provided comfort, refreshment and recreation for the worker and his wife and friends. The site of this popular venue is now occupied by the Dundas arcade shopping centre.”

  2. The glass roof went after WW2 but part of the building was still there, tho not as the Winter Garden which closed in 1939. If you check out the Middlesbrough Winter Garden Project on Facebook there’s some info
